Hi, I’m Dylan.

Hi, my name is Dylan Blout and I am a Sophomore at Bishop O’Dowd High School. I previously attended Edna Brewer, an Oakland Public Middle School. I have always been interested in Math. By the age of 10, I was speaking three languages and practicing algebra, so Math also came very easy to me and has always felt like just another language. For fun, I also took courses at Firecracker Math to explore advanced math concepts. I have also taken prep courses to prepare for the the ISEE and HSPT placement exams. Through the prep courses, practice tests and the actual exams, I am adept at general test-taking skills across all subjects. In the HSPT, I received a composite (total) score of 91, but scored a 94 in Mathematics. In high school I completed Algebra 2 and Geometry and achieved an A in both semesters. I am currently taking Advanced Algebra and Trigonometry.

I first discovered my knack for tutoring in 8th grade. During my preparation for the HSPT, I hosted a casual study sessions with some friends who were also studying for the HSPT. I ended up leading the discussions, sharing tips I learned from my own tutor (shout-out to my mom who is a lawyer and the toughest tutor there is — but don’t worry, I’m much more chill than she is!) and the Barrons HSPT study guide. After the HSPT exam, one of the parents asked me and if I could tutor their daughter in math and that is how my tutoring business began!

Here’s something you should know about me: I have ADHD, and I was diagnosed back in 4th grade. I know how tough it can be to focus and stay organized, but I’ve worked hard to build systems that work for me. Now, I’m doing great in school, and I’m here to help others do the same. ADHD doesn’t mean you can’t excel in math—you just need the right approach. I completely understand what it feels like to learn differently, and I’m here to help you figure out what works best for you.

I charge $40 dollars an hour, but also offer sessions on a sliding scale. So, if money is a barrier, please still contact me if your student needs help. I want to make math accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial situation. Thanks for taking the time to get to know me. I’m excited to help students in our community achieve their best in math and beyond!
